Hiring Process: 5 things to consider while communicating with candidates

HIRING PROCESS: 5 THINGS TO COMMUNICATE TO CANDIDATES

Most recruiters work in a set pattern while working on their requirements. But many times, they miss some basics which can actually make a big change in the hiring process. These not only help in streamlining the process but also save a lot of time.

Read Resume

Reading resume is the first and the most important step which every recruiter must follow carefully, but how many actually do that? In the world of recruitment to fulfill every requirement instantly, we miss the basic step of screening the profile i.e. matching the skills of the candidates with the requirement. Reading the resume not only gives us a preview about the candidate’s previous work experience but also enables us to question him aptly on his skills, which further helps in quality screening and saves a lot of time. The phrase “time is money” seems fit here, if we spend time in quality screening it saves a lot of time otherwise wasted in interviewing and rejecting candidates.

Communicate Right

Many a time, not much thought is given on how the Recruiter is communicating with the candidate. How and what needs to be communicated must be well thought of, as it’s not just us screening the candidate but also vice versa. Candidates also judge us based on how effective we were while communicating with them. One must be confident while explaining the skills required for the opening, know about the organization for which hiring is being done, be aware of the complete hiring process and all other related details. This gives confidence to the candidate in our procedure and reflects how attentive we are to his / her queries.

Keep Job Description Handy

When we start working on any opening the prime requirement is the job description. It not only helps the recruiter in understanding the requirement and hire the right resource but also helps candidates in understanding the Job Expectations from him or her.

Time it Right

If we are looking for a 100 % response from the candidate then the best practice would be to ask him/her about a comfortable time to have the conversation instead of starting off immediately. This helps in having an easy and relaxed conversation.

Focus on Job Experience

“What is your CTC? Expected CTC?  Notice Period?” are the most common questions asked, but it would make sense if the focus is also given on the work experience the candidate has. It helps us in understanding the depth of the knowledge he/she has and refines the candidate pool for the further process of hiring.
